Fireside Chat With The Next Generation Delegates

The Council helps position the next generation delegation comprised of exceptional students from universities throughout the United States and across the globe studying agriculture, and related disciplines to take a global leadership role through events, programs, and fellowships designed to enhance their global acumen and expand their professional networks. They are exceptional students because all of them are interested in developing a holistic understanding of the conceptual challenges around global food security and become among the players in finding solutions to those challenges and address them.

I have had the opportunity to become among the next generation delegates for the Council’s Global Food Security Symposium last year in 2018. This has given me the opportunity to meet with leaders in global agriculture, sustainable food systems, policymakers, and other key influencers. It was an excellent opportunity for me to connect with other exceptional students to discuss ideas, hatch plans, begin to develop collaborations and partnerships and to make life-long friends.

Becoming a next-generation delegate of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs has opened many doors of opportunity for me including serving as the youngest member of the Global Agriculture Task Force of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, where I was able to contribute to the Global Food Security Report 2019 —The full report, From Scarcity to Security: Managing Water for a Nutritious Food Future. Here you can also find supplementary materials, including the US Policy Companion, the summary video, and the digital interactive.

The task force aims to prepare reports that inform the development of US policy on global agricultural development and food security. Below is the Fireside Chat video with the Next Generation Delegates at the Global Food Security Symposium 2019. They are explaining what motivated them to be part of confronting these challenges related to global food security and what they are currently doing to confront these problems. It is worth a few minutes of your attention.
